One of the biggest portal losses for the Longhorns last offseason, the former four-star recruit and sophomore linebacker Terrence Cooks joined the TCU Horned Frogs in the 2022 transfer cycle as part of head coach Sonny Dykes’ roster rebuild in Fort Worth. He transferred to TCU after the change in coaching regime from Tom Herman to Sark.

Cooks was expected to push for a spot on the two-deep at TCU last season. Unfortunately, though, Cooks suffered a season-ending injury during fall camp.

Heading into the 2023 season, Cooks appears to be fully healthy and ready to contribute along the Horned Frogs’ defensive front. He will be pushing for a spot on the two-deep at strong-side linebacker in fall camp, along with some experienced linebackers, namely senior Marcel Brooks. The number of live-game snaps Cooks gets on defense for TCU this fall hinges on how much progress he can make on the depth chart to make up for lost time due to injury.

Moreover, Cooks and the Horned Frogs will face the Longhorns at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth on Nov. 11. Since Cooks only missed all of last season due to injury for the Horned Frogs, he’s still only taken a handful of defensive snaps in his collegiate career, which came with the Longhorns during his true freshman campaign in 2021.

Cooks is likely to be a breakout candidate to watch among the underclassmen for the Horned Frogs on defense this fall.
