Texas basketball recruiting in the 2024 class is coming into focus heading into the fall. With the Early Signing Period just a few months away, new full-time head coach Rodney Terry and his staff are getting official visits set before the 2023-24 season begins.

The most recent big-time official visit Terry and the Longhorns staff locked in is the elite five-star Montverde Academy power forward Asa Newell. On3 reported on July 27 that Newell will officially visit Texas on Sep. 8.

This will be the first time that Newell visits Texas since the Longhorns offered last fall. He’s also set to officially visit the Alabama Crimson Tide starting Aug. 1 after he took an OV to Spokane, WA, this week to see the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Texas will get the final official visit among what is currently scheduled for the nation’s No. 1 power forward recruit in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.

Along with the Gonzaga official visit, Newell has already seen the Indiana Hoosiers and Georgia Bulldogs.

Texas set for a critical stretch of visits this fall

The late summer and fall will be critical stretches on the recruiting trail for Texas men’s hoops. Texas will host elite 2024 recruits for official visits this fall, such as four-star Pasadena (TX) Memorial power forward Robert Miller III, four-star Carrollton (TX) Newman Smith power forward Nic Codie, and Newell.

Codie is set to officially visit Texas on Sep. 16. Miller’s official visit will take place a couple of weeks later, on Sep. 29.

The top guard recruit that has an official visit set to see Texas this fall is high-four-star Montverde Academy guard Curtis Givens. The Memphis, TN, native Givens will take his Texas official visit from Sep. 2-4.

Lastly, Texas is expected to host other elite priority recruits in the 2024 class on campus in the next few months. Five-star Link Academy wing Tre Johnson and five-star Montverde Academy forward Liam McNeeley could make it back to Texas this fall before making their decisions.
