With the dead period for in-person visits lifting on July 25, Texas football kicked off this week by hosting a talented group of visiting recruits from Mater Die High School. Five recruits from Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei visited Texas on July 25. Most notably, Texas hosted the No. 1 ranked running back recruit in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and No. 1 California wide receiver in the 2025 class on campus this week.

The top-ranked running back recruit in the nation in the 2025 class, Jordon Davison, made his fourth trip to Texas since last offseason, his first visit since the first Junior Day of the 2023 offseason on Jan. 21.

And the top wide receiver out of California in the 2025 class, high-four-star Marcus Harris, made his first trip to Texas since last summer.

This was a critical visit for Harris and the Longhorns, since it was the first time for the elite 2025 California wideout to meet new Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson during an in-person visit to the 40. Jackson does have connections to Harris, since he played wide receiver at Mater Dei.

The early returns from Harris’ visit to Texas are very positive. Hank South from Horns247 reported on July 26 (paid content) that Texas is in a “strong position” for Harris following successful unofficial visit earlier this week.

Jackson reportedly “spent time going over tape” with Harris, including film from his days in the NFL. Harris also got to spend time with Texas wideouts Xavier Worthy and AD Mitchell.

It sounds like Jackson and the Longhorns did a nice job of putting together this visit experience for Harris. They made him feel like a priority while connecting him with some of the best wideouts on campus.
