Jonathon Brooks, RB

Another Longhorns player that looked the part of a physical standout on the first day of fall practice was redshirt sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks. The presumed RB1 heading into the start of fall camp was healthy and ready to go on the first day of practice.

The 6-foot and 207-pound running back took the second-team reps in running back drills on Aug. 2, behind redshirt senior Keilan Robinson. But that wasn’t surprising given that the pecking order of running backs on this day largely went by experience levels.

Here was the reported running back pecking order on Aug. 2 in drills.

1st: Keilan Robinson

2nd: Jonathon Brooks

3rd: Jaydon Blue

4th: CJ Baxter Jr.

But when the team drills began on offense, Brooks was paired with redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers. Meanwhile, Robinson was paired with redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy with the second-team in practice on Aug. 2 for the offensive drills.

The writing is on the wall that Brooks is on pace to be RB heading into Week 1 as long as he stays healthy and keeps looking this good physically in the early stages of fall camp.
