Johntay Cook II is going to be a stud right away

The most talked-about wide receiver coming out of the second day of fall practice was, hands down, true freshman Johntay Cook II. During his second day in fall practice as a Longhorn, Cook put on a show, especially in front of the media.

CJ Vogel of TFB Texas reported on Aug. 3 (donor content) that Cook “blew past” an opposing defensive back on a go-route for a catch during team/one-on-one drills in practice.

Cook ran clean routes throughout practice, making it look easy during individual and team drills. He reportedly was one of the wide receivers that were “quickest out of the cuts”, along with junior standout Xavier Worthy in the first two days of fall practice this week.

Horns247 reported on Aug. 3 that Cook was one of the three standouts among the top wide receivers in the second day of fall practice, along with Worthy and fellow junior wideout AD Mitchell. It was said that Cook is “closer to the top group” of wideouts in terms of his performance in fall practice thus far than with the younger guys deeper down the depth chart at the position.

The sentiment we keep hearing regarding the impression Cook has made in practice thus far is that he is the next in line at field receiver behind Worthy. Considering the depth Texas has in the wide receiver room this year, that says a lot about the trajectory of Cook’s game heading into his true freshman campaign.
