Zina Umeozulu, EDGE

After landing Simmons’ commitment on Aug. 10, one of the next-highest priority edge rushers in the 2024 class for the Longhorns heading into the fall is the touted four-star Allen edge rusher Zina Umeozulu. The brother of second-year Texas offensive lineman and fellow former Allen blue-chip recruit Neto Umeozulu, Zina has the Longhorns among his top schools heading into the fall.

Zina has visited Texas more than any other school in the last couple of years. That included a successful late-June official visit to Austin (specifically from June 23-25).

Umeozulu was another priority Texas recruit in the 2024 class that took notice of Simmons’ commitment to Texas on the afternoon of Aug. 10. He posted Simmons’ commitment graphic on his IG story, tagging the elite Duncanville edge rusher recruit with a “Hookem”.

If Texas were to get commitments from Simmons and Umeozulu in the 2024 class, the Longhorns would have a potent pairing for the defensive front in the SEC next fall and beyond.

Texas remains in a great spot for Umeozulu heading into the fall, with competition primarily coming from the Oklahoma Sooners. And if this recruitment is anything like his brother’s, it will be hard to get a read on Umeozulu’s collegiate destination until he’s ready to announce (likely at some point this fall).
