The top priority along the offensive line for offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall is the elite five-star Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei offensive tackle Brandon Baker. The top-ranked offensive tackle recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking has found a lot of traction with Flood and the Longhorns since the spring.

Following his official visit to Austin in mid-June, Baker said that “it means something” when he talks to Flood. Baker stated that the Longhorns are “building a really strong offensive line” and that Flood is “a really good coach”.

Baker is the immediate impact offensive tackle that Flood and the Longhorns prioritize as they did with Freshman All-American offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. in the 2022 class.

The primary competition for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the race to land a commitment from Baker heading into the fall are the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes. Oregon initially had the lead in this recruitment early in the offseason. But Texas and Ohio State made big moves during the summer official visit season to make this a three-horse race with Oregon.

Baker is the type of recruit that could see the momentum the Longhorns are building on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class heading into the fall and want to get in the mix when it gets closer to the end of his decision timeline. 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong reported on Aug. 11 that Baker is one of the five-star recruits Texas is in a great position with after landing Simmons on Aug. 10.
