Earlier this week, Texas football landed a commitment from its top-priority recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons. With Simmons now committed to Texas in the 2024 class, head coach Steve Sarkisian and this staff are turning their attention to other top-priority recruits heading into the fall.

Amid the top-priority recruits on the defensive side of the ball for Sark and the Longhorns staff heading into the fall is the gifted four-star Tulsa (OK) NOAH Homeschool edge rusher Danny Okoye.

The physically-gifted 6-foot-4 and 240-pound Oklahoma EDGE is arguably the highest-priority out-of-state recruit at the position for the Longhorns in the 2024 class late this summer.

Texas football sets an unofficial visit with 4-Star EDGE Danny Okoye for a game weekend this fall

Sark is certainly treating this recruitment like Okoye is a top priority late this summer. Immediately following Simmons’ commitment to Texas on the afternoon of Aug. 10, Sark was back hitting the recruiting trail hard. He was seen on FaceTime with Okoye via a post on social media on Aug. 10.

Whatever Sark and the Longhorns staff is doing with Okoye is working. Texas made the cut for Okoye’s top six finalist schools, which he announced on social media on Aug. 13. His other finalist schools are the Oklahoma Sooners, Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, LSU Tigers, and Colorado Buffaloes.

Along with including Texas amid his six finalist schools this weekend, Okoye reportedly set a return visit to Austin for a game weekend this fall. Horns247 reported on Aug. 13 that Okoye will make an unofficial visit to Texas on Sep. 16 for the matchup against the Wyoming Cowboys at home at DKR.

This will be Okoye’s first visit to the Forty Acres since he made an official trip to Austin on June 16. Texas was the first school that Okoye officially visited. The Texas OV in mid-June made an impression on Okoye. He said that Texas “definitely moved up” among his top schools after his mid-June official visit to Austin.

"“They definitely moved up on the charts after this weekend. I’m not going to say where to, but they’re definitely up there now.”"

Okoye reportedly looking at a fall decision timeline

Okoye told Horns247 that he’s planning on announcing his decision at some time between mid-October and late November. But it’s hard to tell how firm he has on that decision timeline.

"A decision is roughly set for mid October to late November, however, Okoye added that he’s a “spur of the moment” guy.“If I’m certain about the decision, I may just drop it and shock everybody.”"

During the fall, Okoye has an official visit set with the Sooners to see Norman on Sep. 1. He’s also planning to officially visit Tennessee, Alabama, and LSU this fall. Although, he doesn’t have any other visit dates reportedly set as of Aug. 13, outside of the unofficial to Texas for the Wyoming game and the aforementioned Sep. 1 OV to Norman.
