Kobe Black, CB

Hands down, the top priority recruit for the Longhorns in the 2024 class after reeling in Simmons on Aug. 10 is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The No. 1 cornerback recruit in the state of Texas in the 2024 class fills a need at the position for CB coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns.

If Joseph and the Longhorns get a commitment from Black, that would likely round out the recruiting at cornerback in the 2024 class heading into signing day.

What makes Black such an important priority recruit for the Longhorns in the 2024 class is the fact that Texas missed out on its three other biggest targets at the position this summer. Four-star defensive backs Corian Gipson (Clemson), Wardell Mack (Florida), and Selman Bridges (Arkansas) all committed elsewhere in the last couple of months.

The good news is that Texas is firmly trending to land Black’s commitment this week. In the last few days, many experts and insiders from the major recruiting services (247Sports, Rivals, and On3) forecasted Black’s commitment to Texas.

That includes a Crystal Ball Prediction from 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong on Aug. 14, projecting Black’s pledge to the Longhorns (with six out of 10 confidence). Wiltfong also reported on Aug. 15 that Texas has an “overwhelming” buzz in this recruitment.

Texas is the favorite to land Black’s commitment heading into the fall. We now wait and see if he moves up his decision timeline to before the start of his senior season.
