There are a few offensive line targets that remain uncommitted for Texas football in the 2024 recruiting class heading into the fall. Offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood has pinpointed two blue-chip Mater Dei offensive line recruits as his top priority for out-of-state recruiting in the trenches in the 2024 class.

Those two high-priority Mater Dei offensive line recruits for the Longhorns in the 2024 class are four-star interior offensive lineman DeAndre Carter and five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker. Carter, the former of those two blue-chip Mater Dei offensive line prospects, recently set his commitment date and announced his three finalist schools.

Carter included Texas, the Auburn Tigers, and Michigan State Spartans among his top three finalists. And his decision date is set for Sep. 3.

Flood and the Longhorns were a real player in this recruitment since Carter had a successful visit to Austin unofficially for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21. The communication was consistent between Texas and Carter throughout the summer.

Carter told On3 that he likes Coach Flood and the draw that Texas is getting from the Mater Dei program recently.

"“A couple of my teammates go there and they talk about how awesome it is and that they love it. Coach Flood is a very good OL coach and loved the program. Loved the environment and the fans.”"

Although, this decision timeline doesn’t favor Texas with Carter set to announce his commitment in a few weeks. Carter is scheduled to officially visit Texas on Sep. 29. Had he drawn out his decision timeline past that late-September official visit to Austin, Texas could’ve potentially had the last in-person visit with Carter before he was ready to decide.

Auburn is considered the leader in the race to land a commitment from Carter heading into his early-September decision date. Carter’s most recent visit was to Auburn in late July. He also had a successful official visit to Auburn on June 16.
