Dominick McKinley, DL

Among the most highly-anticipated decision dates before the start of the season for the Longhorns is on Sep. 1. The elite five-star Lafayette (LA) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley will announce his commitment on Sep. 1.

Texas is in the top group of schools, along with the Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers, heading into McKinley’s Sep. 1 decision date. But this looks like it will come down to a battle between Texas and Oklahoma to land McKinley’s commitment.

CJ Vogel of TFB Texas reported on Aug. 17 (donor content) that Ohio State is also a team to watch in this recruitment heading into McKinley’s decision date. Vogel even mentioned that Ohio State could be Texas’ “top competition” in the race to land a commitment from McKinley on Sep. 1.

Ohio State is the wildcard in this recruitment. McKinley has a great relationship with Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson, putting the Buckeyes as a legitimate threat to land his commitment.

However, proximity to home is a factor in this recruitment. That would favor Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU over Ohio State. But it sounds like Texas has as good of a chance as anyone in this recruitment a few weeks before McKinley’s announcement.
