Texas is in a great spot late this summer for its top priority recruit in the 2024 class after getting Simmons committed on Aug. 10. The elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black is now the “must-get” recruit for the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall.

Black can be that immediate impact corner Texas needs next year with the likely departure of redshirt junior boundary cornerback Ryan Watts to the 2024 NFL Draft. That is one of the selling points CB coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns are utilizing in this recruitment.

Getting Simmons in this class and Joseph’s relationship with Black and his family are also big factors as to why Texas is in pole position in the race to land his commitment heading into the fall.

There is no set decision timeline for Black. But there is a growing feeling that Black could decide before the start of his senior season. Texas getting Simmons in this class is a factor that could help Black commit to the Longhorns in the next few weeks.

The biggest question in this recruitment remains how patient Black will be with the recruiting process. If he decides to visit other schools for games during the fall, that benefits Texas’ competition with Black. Thus, the sooner Black is ready to announce his commitment, the better for Texas in the 2024 class.
