Another name along the Texas defensive front that is coming up a lot in training camp in the last couple of weeks is the uber-talented senior defensive lineman Alfred Collins. Horns247 reported after the scrimmage on Aug. 19 (paid content) that Collins was one of the defensive players that received the most praise in today’s scrimmage.

As a side note, this is two-for-two for Collins being a standout in the fall scrimmages for the Longhorns the last two weekends.

It sounds like Collins was disruptive and consistent, whether playing in the three or five-tech in the last two scrimmages.

A common theme in this list of standouts for the Longhorns from the second fall scrimmage is that the defense looked better of the two sides of the ball. A big reason is the disruptiveness that Texas’ front seven continued to show in this scrimmage on Aug. 19.

Multiple post-scrimmage reports on Aug. 19 noted that the defense won the scrimmage this morning and early this afternoon. The defensive front, particularly, has looked really good in the two scrimmages for Pete Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns in the last two weekends.

Texas has a good group of talented defensive linemen emerging in the first few weeks of training camp, including Collins. The second-team defensive line, featuring Collins and junior Vernon Broughton, has surpassed expectations from what’s being reported and what we’ve heard in the first three weeks of fall practice.
