The most complete performance of the weekend from any Texas commit came courtesy of IMG Academy’s Gibson. The high-four-star running back Gibson had multiple touchdown runs as he just looked faster than all the Lipscomb Academy defenders in IMG’s convincing 25-point win on Aug. 18.

Gibson was arguably the offensive MVP for Gibson in the multi-score win in their opener against Lipscomb Academy. He went off for over 170 rushing yards and two scores on just 14 attempts. He averaged a whopping 12.3 yards per carry in this game.

The first big play from scrimmage for Gibson came on a 50+ yard touchdown run that gave IMG Academy a 14-3 lead over Lipscomb. That wound up being the game-winning score for IMG.

IMG’s lead stretched even further in the second half on Gibson’s second big touchdown run of the day. He went for 40+ yards, seemingly untouched for a score to start putting the nail in Lipscomb’s coffin.

After IMG extended its lead to three scores in the third quarter, Gibson’s workload diminished as the coaches got other backs touches in the ground game. Nonetheless, this was a brilliant performance from Gibson in the season opener against a top-20 ranked out-of-state foe.

Gibson and the Ascenders return to action against another top-20 ranked out-of-state foe next weekend when they face the No. 11 St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, PA) Hawks on Aug. 26.
