Texas football is starting to assemble its visitor lists for the early-season home games this fall. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian already scheduled a big-time visitor for an unofficial trip for the season opener on Sep. 2 at DKR against the Rice Owls.

On3’s Sam Spiegelman reported on Aug. 21 (paid content) that Texas will host the highly touted four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback and Florida Gators commit Wardell Mack on an unofficial visit for the Rice game on Sep. 2.

Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas/On Texas Football confirmed this report that Mack will visit Texas for the Rice game on Sep. 2 on an episode of the “Longhorn Livestream” on YouTube this week.

During the summer, Mack was a high-priority defensive back target for CB coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns in the 2024 class. Texas looked to be in a good spot among Mack’s top schools after he had a successful late-June official visit to Austin.

Despite the successful June official visit, Mack chose Florida over Texas and the LSU Tigers on Aug. 14. Yet, it looks like Mack will still take multiple visits to other schools for games this fall.

Mack will also visit Tallahassee on Nov. 11 to see the Florida State Seminoles host their ACC foe, the Miami Hurricanes, at home.

Texas still alive in this recruitment heading into the fall

Joseph and the Longhorns are still very much involved in this recruitment late this summer. The fact that Mack is still taking visits and that Texas still has DB spots open in its 2024 class adds up to this recruitment getting very interesting in the coming weeks and months.

In a couple of weeks, Mack’s visit for the Rice game will be his third trip to the Forty Acres since the spring. He also visited Texas unofficially for the spring game on April 15 and officially for the aforementioned late-June trip.
