What is commonly considered the “must-win” recruitment for Texas football in the 2024 class this fall involves the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. At this point of the cycle, the No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite is a top priority for cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and this staff.

Black is such a talented recruit that many of the top Power Five programs in the nation are still in contact this fall.

5-Star Texas football CB target Kobe Black cancels LSU official visit this weekend

Black was originally scheduled to take an official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend to see LSU host FCS Grambling at Tiger Stadium. But a report from Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas on Sep. 9 (paid content) indicates that Black canceled his official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend.

This is a great sign for Texas’ standing among the top schools in the race to land a commitment from Black this fall.

Black is also scheduled to officially visit College Station for the matchup between Texas A&M and Alabama at Kyle Field on the weekend of Oct. 6. That is the next official visit date to watch for Texas in this recruitment.

This IT report mentioned Texas A&M is currently considered the “biggest threat” to Texas in the race to land a commitment from Black early this fall.

Texas remains the trendy pick to land Black in the 2024 class this fall

Texas has long been considered the favorite in this recruitment. Black has great relationships with the Longhorns and the coaches during the spring. He had multiple successful visits to Austin during the summer, including a late-June official trip.

Black doesn’t have a public decision timeline. However, he’s maintained in various interviews in the last few months that he plans to take his visits this fall and be patient with the recruiting process.
