Texas football and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood have a solid group in the trenches among the commitments in the 2024 recruiting class. Texas currently has three offensive linemen committed to the 2024 class, highlighted by four-star North Richland Hills (TX) Richland interior offensive lineman Daniel Cruz.

One priority interior offensive line target in the 2024 class got away from Flood and the Longhorns during the summer. The highly touted four-star Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei interior offensive lineman DeAndre Carter was one of Flood and the Longhorns’ top targets at the position in the 2024 class this summer.

A couple of weeks ago, Carter committed to the Auburn Tigers over Texas and the Michigan State Spartans.

Yet, it doesn’t sound like Flood and the Longhorns are throwing in the towel in this recruitment anytime soon. Inside Texas reported on Sep. 13 (paid content) that the Longhorns “aren’t backing off” Carter this fall. Texas might even be able to get him back to campus for the Sep. 29 official visit he scheduled before he committed to Auburn on Sep. 3.

Carter possibly making a return trip for an official visit in late September

That visit isn’t confirmed yet, but it’s worth noting that Carter could make it to campus for the Big 12 home opener on Sep. 30 against the Kansas Jayhawks. With Kansas trending up this season under head coach Lance Leipold and quarterback Jalon Daniels, that will be a big game for the Longhorns and Jayhawks and a rowdy environment at DKR on Sep. 30.

If Carter does make it to the 40 for his official visit in late September, it would be his first time in Austin since he made the trip to Texas for the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21.

Flood has identified Carter as his top IOL flip target this fall

Carter is one of the potential flip targets to watch for Flood and the Longhorns along the offensive line in the 2024 class this fall. Four-star Texas A&M Aggies offensive tackle commit Weston Davis is another name to watch among the potential flip candidates for the Longhorns along the offensive line in the next few months before signing day in December.
