Zina Umeozulu, EDGE

Sep. 29: Allen @ Frisco (TX) Rock Hill

The Allen Eagles are one of the hotter teams in North Texas high school football in the last few weeks. After dropping its first two games of the 2023 season, against the DeSoto Eagles (39-7 loss on Aug. 25) and Houston (TX) King Panthers (45-28 loss on Sep. 1), Allen has responded with three straight victories.

This winning streak started for four-star Texas edge rusher commit Zina Umeozulu and the Eagles on Sep. 8 with a 20-point win over Arlington (TX) Martin at home. Allen has also defeated its last two opponents, McKinney (TX) Boyd and Denton (TX) Braswell, by a combined margin of 80 points.

Allen will put its three-game winning streak to the test in its third game of district play this fall on Sep. 29 on the road against the 1-4 Frisco (TX) Rock Hill Blue Hawks. Umeozulu and the Eagles are the overwhelming favorite against Rock Hill this week. But Allen has the target on its back again as one of the favorites to win the 6A Regional I District 5.

Umeozulu came up big for the Eagles in the 33-9 win over Braswell last week, with multiple quarterback pressures and defensive stops. But we still don’t have stats posted for Umeozulu this season, as Allen has not published them on MaxPreps. What we’ve seen in person and via Allen’s game livestreams is what we have to work off of to count Umeozulu’s production.

This should be another big outing for Umeozulu, who is back to playing more three-tech as a true edge rusher/defensive end along Allen’s defensive front in the last few weeks.
