The top in-state edge rusher priority for Texas football in the 2025 recruiting class is the elite high-four-star Humble (TX) Summer Creek product Chad Woodfork. The No. 1 ranked edge rusher recruit in Texas in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is someone co-DC/LB coach Pete Kwiatkowski identified and offered early in this cycle.

Texas was one of the early Power Five schools that offered Woodfork in the spring of 2023.

Woodfork’s recruitment has heated up, with over a half-dozen Power Five offers coming his way in the last couple of months. Since the start of August, he’s received offers from the Georgia Bulldogs, Arkansas Razorbacks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Duke Blue Devils, and USC Trojans, among other Power Five schools.

Elite 2025 edge rusher Chad Woodfork will visit Texas football for games on back-to-back weekends

The rise of interest in Woodfork’s recruitment hasn’t slowed the Longhorns’ progress with the elite in-state edge rusher this fall. Texas is one of Woodfork’s top schools this fall after a couple of successful unofficial visits during the offseason (most recently for the late-July pool party/BBQ bash).

Woodfork told Horns247 this week (paid content) that Texas is one of his favorite schools, along with Arkansas, Georgia, and USC. He reportedly values academics and football, which is a big contributing factor to Texas and USC being major players in this recruitment.

Woodfork has built strong relationships with PK and Sarkisian

Relationships are reportedly playing a big role in this recruitment for the Longhorns. Sark and PK both have strong relationships with Woodfork. He specifically likes the development he’s seen on the field from PK’s defense in the last couple of years, along with the player development the co-DC has put forward in the last decade to 15 years.

"“The guys he’s coached that went to the league and just seeing the system I could be in and the plays I could make in that system.”"

A Texas visit is high on the priority list for Woodfork this fall

Woodfork is reportedly planning to visit Houston this weekend to see the Houston Cougars host No. 8 ranked Texas at TDECU Stadium on Oct. 21. That is the first of two gameday visits Woodfork will be at to see the Longhorns play in as many weeks in late October.

He’s also set to visit Texas unofficially for the Oct. 28 matchup at DKR in Austin against the BYU Cougars. The Texas-BYU game will be the first gameday for Woodfork at DKR since Texas offered in the spring.

While it’s still early in this recruitment, Texas has the relationships, academics, and trajectory as a football program to check all the boxes for Woodfork.
