Texas football got big news on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class this week with the report that the elite five-star McKinney (TX) safety and Florida Gators commit Xavier Filsaime made a midweek unofficial visit to Austin. Filsaime took the unofficial visit to Austin on Nov. 20, and the early returns are that the trip was a success for him and Texas.

With Texas hosting Filsaime on a successful unofficial visit to Austin this week, safeties coach Blake Gideon and the rest of the staff are looking to get him back to campus for an official trip before signing day on Dec. 20. And it sounds like that is a likely occurrence that Filsaime makes a return trip to Texas for an official visit next month.

Texas football reportedly “expecting” to get top priority 5-Star S flip target Xavier Filsaime back to the 40 for an official visit

Inside Texas reported on Nov. 24 (paid content) that Texas is “expecting Filsaime back on campus” for an official visit before the start of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 20. There is not an exact date the Longhorns have set for Filsaime to take an official visit to Austin before signing day next month.

But that official visit date would likely come in mid-December, assuming the Longhorns can clinch a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington on Dec. 2. Texas needs to beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home in the regular season finale on Black Friday to lock up a spot in the Big 12 title game.

Filsaime a possibility to visit for Texas vs. Texas Tech on Nov. 24

This IT report also noted the possibility that Filsaime will make another unofficial visit to Texas for the Texas Tech game at DKR in Austin on Black Friday (Nov. 24). That visit for the Texas vs. Texas Tech game has not been confirmed yet. Still, it is something we’ll be watching for in the coming hours before the kickoff at DKR this evening.

Filsaime is also scheduled to visit Gainesville for the rivalry game at The Swamp between the Florida Gators and No. 5 Florida State Seminoles on Nov. 25. If he were to make the visit later today for the Texas vs. Texas Tech game, he would have to get a quick flight out of Austin to Gainesville by the morning of Nov. 25 to make it to The Swamp for the 6 p.m. kickoff between Florida and Florida State.

Texas looking to get another DB flip from Florida’s 2024 recruiting class before signing day

Texas has already flipped one defensive back commitment from the Gators this fall when it got a pledge from the highly touted four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack on Nov. 12. And the Longhorns are looking for another flip from the Gators 2024 class as they are making Filsaime’s recruitment a top priority before signing day next month.

Florida’s class is in trouble right now after the Gators lost three blue-chip commitments in the last two weeks. It also sounds like Florida could be losing another commitment or two (reportedly, that is not Filsaime) soon.

Questions have surfaced regarding the direction of the Florida program with the struggles head coach Billy Napier and the Gators have on the field this season. Florida is in danger of missing out on bowl eligibility if it falls short of Florida State this weekend. If Florida loses to Florida State, it would also be the second straight losing second for Napier and the Gators for the second-year head coach.
