Last week, over a dozen Texas football players participated in the walk on Senior Night on Black Friday before facing the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the regular season finale at DKR. Texas’ seniors helped this squad dominate Texas Tech by a whopping 50-point margin to earn a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game and reach 11 wins to cap the regular season.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and this staff developed this senior class to take this program to heights it hasn’t seen since the late 2000s. The growth we’ve seen from this program under Sarkisian shows why this senior class deserves recognition and hopefully some early-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Seniors who have good reason to return to Texas football for the 2024 season

But Texas could also get some of the players in this senior class back for another season, which could really help this team upon the move to the SEC in 2024. We talked last week about the possibility of five players who walked on Senior Night that the Longhorns could get back for the 2024 season.

Since then, we’ve received more reporting and intel regarding which Longhorns players could return to school in 2024. Here are three senior players for the Longhorns who are more likely than not to return to Texas for one more season.

Trill Carter, DL

When senior defensive lineman Trill Carter committed to Texas after transferring from Minnesota last offseason, it was with the idea that he would spend two years on the Forty Acres with DL coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns. After a solid first season playing for the Burnt Orange, where he’s posted career-highs in defensive grade and run defense grade, Carter appears primed to compete for a bigger role at Texas in 2024.

It is still very likely that Carter will return for his second season at Texas in 2024 after playing over 200 defensive snaps for the Longhorns this fall.

Assuming he does return to Texas next season, Carter will be one of the most experienced and proven defensive linemen in the rotation for Davis in the first year in the SEC. He would be one of the top three or four defensive linemen in the rotation along the interior, including junior Vernon Broughton and redshirt freshman Jaray Bledsoe.

The real question for Texas’s defensive line regarding the potential of returning senior players in 2024 is the Alfred Collins decision. Collins was expected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft after the season throughout this fall. But Collins still has one year of eligibility remaining.

Collins could return to Texas in 2024 to help boost his NFL Draft stock and give the Longhorns a quality starter along the interior defensive line in the SEC.
