3 2025 Texas commits who recently visited other SEC schools

How should it be gauged status-wise for top Texas commits in the 2025 recruiting class visiting other SEC schools in recent weeks before signing day in December?

Among a handful of Texas commitments in the 2025 class who took gameday trips to Gainesville last weekend, four-star Carrollton (GA) safety Zelus Hicks was there in-person unofficially to see the Florida Gators top LSU.

Hicks reclassified down to join the Longhorns 2025 class a few weeks ago, giving him a shortened timeline to take any other visits to Texas's SEC foes on the trail this fall.

He's taken unofficial gameday visits to see the Tennessee Volunteers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and Florida this fall.

This isn't a huge surprise, though, that Hicks has visited other SEC schools on the recruiting trail late this fall and before signing day on Dec. 4. Multiple competing SEC schools with the Longhorns on the trail have consistently pushed for communication with Hicks, especially since his decisive timeline before signing in a few weeks in early December for the 2025 class.

It still sounds like Hicks is firmly committed to the Longhorns in the 2025 class, despite taking some recent trips to other schools in the Southeast in the last month. Texas safeties coach Blake Gideon, among others on the Longhorns' staff, have built great relationships with Hicks in the past 10-12 months.

We're still going to monitor this recruitment for Hicks over the next few weeks, since top commits from the Southeastern United States at key spots on defense are always targeted in the SEC by schools.
