For the second time in the winter portal window, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell announced his plans to transfer from Texas for the upcoming offseason on Dec. 16. Mitchell had originally rescinded his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 11.

But Mitchell's name officially appeared in the transfer portal on Monday afternoon. The big 6-foot-6 and 350-pound defensive tackle also wasn't seen at Monday's practice during the open media viewing window for the Longhorns before the Playoff game this weekend against Clemson.

Texas's defensive tackle depth is looking pretty trim on the projected interior defensive line top-end rotation for the 2025 season. The Longhorns lost four defensive tackles with multiple years of experience in the program to the transfer portal on the first week of the winter window in the past seven days.

Mitchell was projected to be the only returning defensive tackle on Texas's roster for the 2025 season who had live-game snaps at zero-tech.

Texas replaced the snaps Mitchell had at the nose tackle position bringing in the grad transfer Brevard from Purdue from the transfer portal last weekend. Brevard has over 600 career snaps at zero-tech (per PFF) in his collegiate career at Purdue.
