Texas recruiting could get a major impact boost in a positive sense this weekend if they can topple OU in the Red River Rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas in front of important visiting 2026 and 2027 recruits.

John Turntine III, OT

The elite five-star Fort Worth (TX) North Crowley offensive tackle John Turntine III is arguably the Longhorns' top priority recruit on the offensive side of the ball early in the 2026 class.

Not only is Turntine the No. 1 ranked prospect from Texas in the 2026 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, but he is also the exact type of elite offensive line talent Kyle Flood and the Longhorns want to fill that top-end pipeline of left tackle talent rolling through the Forty Acres.

Turntine has already visited Texas more often than any other school since the start of last offseason. He is also being recruited heavily by offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh and the Sooners. Since Texas and Oklahoma are two of the major factors in Turntine's recruitment since this past spring last offseason, this game should have a big impact here for the long-term for his potential decision next year.

Texas is in as good of a standing in this recruitment as any school early in this cycle for 2026. Flood and the Longhorns staff have invested a lot in this recruitment early on. Oklahoma, along with the Texas A&M Aggies, TCU Horned Frogs, SMU Mustangs, and Oregon Ducks are also pushing to get more involved with Turntine's recruitment entering next offseason.

Turntine is also scheduled to take an unofficial gameday visit to Texas for the Georgia game at DKR next weekend.
