3 key injured Texas players heading into Florida
Andrew Mukuba, S
Senior safety Andrew Mukuba suffered a knee injury in the second half of the Georgia game, which caused him to miss Vanderbilt a couple of weeks ago on the road in Nashville. Mukuba was originally expected to be ready for the Florida game after getting the bye week to rest up and recover.
Mukuba is listed on the Wednesday injury report with a status of "questionable" after suffering the knee injury a few weeks ago against Georgia. He ranks seventh on the team in total tackles (25), tied for fourth in pass breakups (three), and second in interceptions (two).
Mukuba has played in seven games this season, and six starts.
In Mukuba's absence in the Vanderbilt game, redshirt junior Michael Taaffe and sophomore Jelani McDonald got the start at safety for the Longhorns. Taaffe has been a critical leader for Texas's secondary at the safety position this fall, leading all Texas defensive backs in total tackles (39) and defensive stops (nine).
Texas has suffered a couple of key injuries at the safety position in the past few weeks. Sophomore Derek Williams Jr. is out for the season after suffering a knee injury on a play in kick coverage in the second half against Oklahoma.
