3 key OU injured players out vs. Texas in Red River
The Thursday updates to the SEC-mandated injury reports were released for No. 1 Texas football and the No. 18 ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 10. Texas and Oklahoma should both get a few players back from various injury issues since each team had bye weeks last week to rest up and recover before the Red River Rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas this weekend.
OU missing multiple key players on each side of the ball for Red River vs. Texas football
Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have a pretty healthy squad going into Red River this weekend against the Sooners on Oct. 12. The big news for the Longhorns this week was the announcement from Sarkisian on Oct. 10 that redshirt junior Quinn Ewers will start at quarterback on Saturday in Red River.
Ewers missed the last two starts for the Longhorns due to an abdominal strain injury he suffered in the first half against UTSA in Week 3. He was listed with a status of "probable" on Wednesday's injury report update. But Ewers was removed from the injury report entirely on Thursday evening.
Oklahoma hasn't been as fortunate regarding the injury news for key starters, especially on the offensive side of the ball, this week. Here are three key starters for Oklahoma who will miss Red River against the Longhorns this weekend at the Cotton Bowl due to injuries.
Kendel Dolby, CB
Of the nine Oklahoma players listed on the injury report for the latest Thursday update this week, only two are defenders. Starting defensive back/cheetah Kendel Dolby and backup corner Gentry Williams are both listed as "out" on the injury report for the Sooners for the Texas game.
Per 247Sports, Dolby is dealing with a season-ending ankle/leg injury that he suffered a few weeks ago in Oklahoma's SEC opener against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Dolby's absence has opened up the door for two younger Oklahoma defensive players, junior Dasan McCullough and sophomore Samuel Omosigho, to get more live-game reps at the cheetah spot for the Sooners in SEC play. McCullough is reportedly on pace to make his season debut for Oklahoma's defense this weekend against Texas in Red River.
Omosigho started Oklahoma's last game against Auburn on the road at the cheetah position on defense in Dolby's absence due to the lower-body injury. I would expect to see a healthy number of reps at cheetah for both Omosigho and Dolby for Oklahoma's defense this weekend in Red River.
