3 New Year's resolutions for Texas Women's Basketball

2024 has flown by fast, and Texas Women's Basketball has had a year. From winning the Big 12 Conference in their final year to making it to the Elite 8, they have done a lot to be proud of. Here are three resolutions the Longhorns have for 2025.

Texas Women's Basketball has achieved so much during 2024. They surprised everyone by earning a number one seed in last season's NCAA March Madness Tournament. They even achieved their goal of winning the Big 12 Title in their final year in the conference before moving to the SEC.

Vic Schaefer and his coaching staff deserve much credit for the hours they invested with the ladies. You must wonder when Texas will renew his contract to keep him in Austin.

The Longhorns picked right where they left off this season after North Carolina State eliminated them. They have been mowing down the teams on their schedule. I can't even complain about their only loss this season.

They competed hard against two players who are future WNBA players. I'm sure the Longhorns have even bigger plans for 2025. Let's look at some New Year's resolutions that Texas Women's Basketball has for the coming year.

New Year's resolutions for Texas women's basketball: 3. Madison Booker taking better quality shots

Before I get to this resolution, I would like to point out that this is my observation as a journalist. I'll let Schaefer and his coaching staff deal with this. Sophomore forward Madison Booker needs to make better-quality shots in 2025.

While she is having a great start to the season, some of her attempted shots have been questionable. Booker is one heck of a player and could win multiple postseason awards. I hope she will take her time and consider if one more pass would get a better shot for someone else.

The Longhorns are about to enter a demanding conference schedule in their first season in the SEC. They must face the South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers. Booker can't take wild, contested shots like in some non-conference games this season.

I'm fine if she misses a wide-open shot attempt. I want her to settle down and take better-quality shots in 2025. It will help out the team during conference play in the long run.

2. More Justice Carlton minutes

I want to see Freshman forward Justice Carlton get more minutes in 2025. During the non-conference schedule, she has put on a clinic coming off the bench. She has proven to the coaching staff she deserves more playing time.

We probably won't see her get much playing time against Oklahoma to kick off the conference schedule. However, Schaefer has to consider playing her when one of his starters gets in foul trouble or if someone needs a rest on the bench.

1. Get to the National Championship game

With how deep this team is, I wouldn't be shocked if they made the National Championship game this season. With the three freshmen progressing well, the Longhorns might have a team created for another long tournament run.

They will have to contend with teams like South Carolina and Notre Dame, but the SEC Conference schedule will prepare them for what's to come in March Madness this season. 2025 will be a bright year for Texas Women's Basketball, whether they bring home the National Championship or not.
