Junior standout slot wide receiver Deion Burks was recruited by Texas and Oklahoma when he hit the transfer portal last offseason after spending a few years with the Purdue Boilermakers in the Big Ten. Burks was one of the more highly-coveted transfer wideouts in the portal this past offseason, ranking as the No. 8 transfer wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite.

He visited Norman and Austin before committing to the Sooners during the winter portal window in December 2023.

Neither the Longhorns nor the Sooners had originally offered Burks as a three-star high school recruit from Michigan in the 2021 class a few years ago. Coming out of high school during the 2021 cycle, Burks was an underrecruited 175-pound wide receiver from Belleville High School in Michigan, holding offers from mostly FCS and G5 schools.

The only power conference offers Burks got as a high school recruit were the Iowa State Cyclones, Indiana Hoosiers, Kentucky Wildcats, Boston College Eagles, and Purdue before he eventually committed to the Boilermakers.

Burks has proven the doubters and schools that overlooked him at the P5 level a few years ago during his high school recruitment wrong since he broke out as an All-Big Ten-caliber receiver at Purdue last season.

It's also proven to be a huge addition to the Sooners receiving corps to have Burks out of the slot at wideout. He leads the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns for the Sooners this season, despite missing OU's last game in the SEC against the Auburn Tigers due to an injury.
