Texas Women's Basketball held its education day game today against the Tarleton State Texans. The Longhorns got off to a fast start and never looked back. They would beat the Texans 83-41 to remain undefeated this season.
This was an excellent test for the Longhorns before they play Notre Dame at the beginning of December. That game will be an accurate measuring stick for the Longhorns before the SEC conference schedule.
Sophomore forward Madison Booker found her shot after having a rough game against the DePaul Blue Demons. It was great seeing the Booker, who Longhorns fans all know, play well this afternoon. Seeing the Booker that Longhorns fans all know and love was great.
Junior forward Kyla Oldacre was a presence on the boards this afternoon with ten rebounds. Today's game showed the Longhorns' depth; everyone got some playing time throughout the game. Here are the three takeaways from the win against the Texans this afternoon.
Takeaways from Texas women's basketball's win over Tarleton State: 3. Madison Booker found her shot this afternoon
After having issues making a basket on Sunday night against DePaul, Booker found her shot against the Texans. Booker could not be stopped as she made basket after basket. She had 20 points by halftime and would finish the game with 25.
Booker is a player who will play a pivotal role in the SEC for the Longhorns this season. Even though Tarleton State is not the best of teams in Division 1 basketball, Booker needed a better shooting game before they take on Notre Dame.
2. Kyla Oldacre cleaned up the boards
Oldarce was a force on the boards this afternoon against the Texans. She led in rebounds at halftime with five and finished the game with ten. Senior forward Taylor Jones had a quiet afternoon after dominating the boards Sunday against DePaul.
Vic Schaefer recruited Oldarce to help build depth at the forward position. Her ability to get down low and collect rebounds will help the Longhorns during conference play. I can't wait to see what else she does this season.
1. Taking more quality three pointers
The one improvement that I would like to see the Longhorns work on is taking quality three-point shots. Throughout the game today, the Longhorns seemed to be dribbling down the court and heaving the ball from beyond the arc at the basket. The Longhorns need to try to get the ball down low first before shooting a three-pointer.
That's really the only improvement that I have for the Longhorns to work on. The next game will be against New Mexico State at the Gulf Coast Showcase after Thanksgiving.
