4 reasons why Texas will beat Arkansas
By Brian Sweet
Texas Football will travel to Fayetteville, AR, this Saturday to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. It will be their second-to-last away game on their regular-season schedule this season. The Longhorns seek revenge after losing to the Razorbacks in 2021 in Steve Sarkisian's first true road game.
After being bumped to number three in the latest poll, the Longhorns will also look to impress the College Football Playoff Committee.
However, it won't be an easy game against the Razorbacks. Arkansas was able to upset Tennessee earlier in the season. They are looking to qualify for a bowl game in December. All they need is a win, and they will be eligible for a bowl game this season.
I'm sure the players are salivating at the chance of upsetting the Longhorns and significantly changing the current College Football Playoffs Rankings. Here are the four reasons why the Longhorns will beat the Razorbacks.
Why Texas football will defeat Arkansas: 4. Longhorns have done an excellent job controlling mobile quarterbacks
There's a good chance that Arkansas Junior quarterback Taylen Green will start against the Longhorns. Green is known to scramble out of the pocket whenever he doesn't have an open receiver.
The Longhorns did an excellent job of controlling Sooners quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. earlier in the season. The Longhorns didn't over-blitz and controlled Hawkins from having huge runs for first downs. The Longhorns will win if they can contain Green from scrambling for huge gains.
3. Getting players outside the numbers
The Longhorns did an excellent job of getting the ball quickly to receivers and running backs outside the numbers. Look at the fantastic run that Longhorns Junior receiver Isaiah Bond had last week, which resulted in a considerable gain below.
The Florida Gators aren't the Georgia Bulldogs, but that seems to get the Longhorns' offense going. If the Longhorns' offense wants to end the game early, getting the ball outside the numbers should be their number one goal this week.
2. Defense wins championships
The Longhorns' defense has been one of the top SEC defenses this season. While it's not like Georgia's defense, where they can stop the run in the blink of an eye, the Longhorns have done well against mediocre offenses this season.
I expect the Longhorns to quickly stop the Razorbacks' defense from doing any damage this upcoming Saturday. The Longhorns' defense will be another reason they beat the Razorbacks this weekend.
1. Ball hawks in the Longhorns' secondary
I will admit that I was concerned about the Longhorns' secondary coming into their first season in the SEC. However, they have proven me wrong throughout the season with breaking up passes and their interceptions.
They have been why opposing offenses have trouble moving the ball down the field. After having a fantastic week shutting down the Gators' passing game, the secondary should be able to shut down the Razorbacks' passing game.
