4 reasons why Texas will beat Kentucky
By Brian Sweet
Texas Football returns to DKR-Memorial Stadium this Saturday to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in the final regular-season home game. The Longhorns are favored to win the football game this Saturday; don't count out the Kentucky Wildcats from pulling off an upset.
They did earlier this season against the Ole Miss Rebels. The Longhorns can't look ahead at the finish line. They have to treat the next two games like they are on the outside of making the College Football Playoffs.
I think the Longhorns have enough talent that there won't be an upset on Senior Night. Quinn Ewers was not himself against the Arkansas Razorbacks, but it might be due to the aggressive playcalling on offense. The Longhorns' defensive line had a field day against the Razorbacks by sacking Taylen Green. I think the Longhorns will be just fine on Saturday. Here are four reasons why the Longhorns will beat the Wildcats.
Why Texas football will beat Kentucky: 4. Offense will go back to what they do
As I mentioned above, the offense was a bit off last Saturday against the Razorbacks due to aggressive offense. It felt like head coach Steve Sarkisian was trying too hard to get the ball down the field quickly.
I think the Longhorns will return to the ground-and-pound offense this weekend, opening up the passing game. Ewers was pressured to throw the ball, but I think the Longhorns will return to what worked best for them.
3. Disguising the offense better
I don't know if it was just me, but the Razorbacks quickly read the Longhorns' offense last Saturday. There were some plays when Isaiah Bond went in motion, and the Razorbacks were ready to wrap him up on the screen.
If the Longhorns will confuse the Wildcats, they need to disguise some of their staple plays better. I'm sure the Wildcats are reviewing those plays in practice with their defense this week. If the Longhorns disguise their plays better, they will beat the Wildcats.
2. Overwhelming the Wildcats QB
The Longhorns' defense did well against the Razorbacks by forcing turnovers. Wildcats Junior quarterback Brock Vandagriff is a seasoned quarterback who has faced some formidable defenses this season. However, I don't think he's ready for the number one defense in the SEC.
The Longhorns held the Razorbacks to under 300 yards on offense. I'm sure the Longhorns will bring that same mentality this weekend. The Longhorns' defense is another reason why the Longhorns will win this weekend.
1. No Fly Zone
The last reason the Longhorns should win this weekend is their secondary. It has played some of the best football this season, shutting down some of these SEC offenses.
Senior cornerback Jahdae Barron had one of his best games last weekend against the Razorbacks. I'm sure he will have another great game this Saturday as well. The Longhorns' secondary will lead them to another victory this weekend.
