4 reasons why Texas will beat Vanderbilt

Texas Longhorns Football is headed to Nashville, Tennesee, to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. It won't be as challenging as the Georgia Bulldogs, but expect Vanderbilt to give it their all. Here are four reasons why Texas will beat Vanderbilt.

Well, you can't win them all every season. Sometimes, you run into a brick wall in conference play, and that's what happened to Texas Football against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Longhorns lost their first game, 30-15 against Georgia. The Bulldogs were the better team up front on defense and forced Quinn Ewers to make bad decisions in the first half of the game. The Bulldogs converted most of those mistakes into points, which was the difference.

Before we get to why the Longhorns will win against Vanderbilt, I would like to say I was disappointed in the fanbase Saturday night. I know the refs made a bad call initially, but that doesn't give you the right to delay the game by throwing trash on the field.

Luckily, none of the players were seriously injured. I agree with Matthew McConaughey's message on X: let's have more class than what was witnessed on Saturday.

However, I can see the other viewpoint of why he should have taken a backseat on this issue. Let the university handle the incident, and let the football coach be the spokesperson for the team. Without further ado, here are the four reasons why the Longhorns will beat Vanderbilt.

Why Texas football will beat Vanderbilt: 4. Quinn Ewers wake up call

The game against the Bulldogs was a wake-up call for Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers. He hadn't played a tough team until Georgia. Ewers learned that some defenses wouldn't give him the time of day to find an open target downfield on Saturday.

Vanderbilt is the same way, with them getting opponents off the field 78 percent of the time on third down. I'm sure the Longhorns will add some plays where Ewers can throw the ball quicker. Expect to see a different Ewers against the Commodores this week.

3. Running game should improve

Credit to the Bulldogs' defensive line for taking the Longhorns' ability away from running the ball down the middle of the field. It forced the Longhorns to resort to getting the ball to the outside, which was their only option.

Even though the Commodores have a good defense, I expect them to run the ball better down the middle of the field. The Longhorns won't have to rely on jet sweeps to run the ball on Saturday.

2. Longhorns defense applying pressure

The Longhorns' defense did its job against the Bulldogs and had a good night despite the loss. The defense will force Vanderbilt to adjust its game plan after applying pressure. The less time they can give Commodores quarterback Deigo Pavia to make plays down the field, the better the Longhorns' winning percentage will rise. I know Vanderbilt has already taken down Alabama, but I don't know if they are ready for the Longhorns' rushing attack.

1. The eyes of Texas are upon Vanderbilt

The Longhorns will play a more complete game against the Commodores, which is more than we experienced against Georgia. I expect the Commodores to give everything they got against Texas. However, the Longhorns are looking to bounce back and prove they belong in the top five of the AP Polls.

With Ewers' mind focused on the present instead of the past, he will be a better leader on the field. The Eyes of Texas are upon Vanderbilt, and you can expect the Longhorns to bounce back with a win.
