5-star OT cancels Texas OV but it isn't an actual setback for the Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns could be that much closer to learning whether they landed a five-star offensive tackle after he canceled his official visits.

Earlier this week, five-star offensive tackle Ismael Camara cancelled his three official visits on the calendar for this summer.

Suddenly, he no longer planned to visit the Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, or Texas Longhorns.

However, this wasn't a signal to any of those programs that he was no longer interested. In fact, his reasoning behind the cancellations should have made him an even more attractive prospect in the class of 2027.

"I have decided not to take any Official Visits this summer. The personal challenge I set for myself two years ago (when I got here), completing high school in just 2.5 years to early enroll in 2027 demands my full commitment," Camara wrote on social media.

Camara went on to say that he is throwing the full weight of his focus into academics and his work on the football field, ensuring that he is the best version of a student and an athlete by the time he heads to the collegiate level.

Texas in-state target Ismael Camara is a must-get recruit

His maturity in deciding not to take advantage of official visits and instead prove his value as a prospect is well beyond his years, at just 16 years old.

Camara, who grew up less than five hours from the Horns' home in Austin, stands at a whopping 6-foot-6 and 335 pounds, an absolutely massive frame for such a young athlete. Additionally, he can fly down the field, clocking in at over 18 MPH during an offseason workout.

His raw athleticism, combined with his off-field maturity, has turned him into one of the most highly touted players in the class of 2027, which will feature a 2026 graduation and a college enrollment in 2027, if all goes according to his 2.5-year plan.

"As a team captain, I got to be here for my teammates during summer workouts. This is my final season," Camara continued. "Last year was my first on varsity, and we fell short. This year, we’re determined not to let that happen. That’s another reason why I need to stay focused and put everything I have into this..."

According to On3 and Rivals, the Ducks have the best chance to land Camara's commitment, but even the recruiting sites can't count out the Horns, as both Texas and Oregon are expected to surge up the recruiting rankings over the next few weeks.
