Texas Women's Basketball hosted the Texas Southern Tigers yesterday afternoon as part of their five-game homestand to start the season. After Texas Football lost to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night, the city of Austin could use something to lift its spirits. Madison Booker and Aaliyah Crump combined for 36 points in the 111-45 win over the Tigers.
Here are four takeaways from yesterday's game:
1. I'm glad Madison Booker only got 20 minutes
I know Booker probably wanted to play more than 20 minutes yesterday against the Tigers, but I'm happy Vic Schaefer took her out when the game was out of reach and she was in foul trouble. There's no need for Booker to be playing in a blowout with the possibility of getting injured. I'd rather her be healthy for the games against UCLA and South Carolina.
Booker performed well in the 20 minutes she played, recording 18 points and 3 assists.

2. Teya Sidberry needs more minutes
One player who came off the bench yesterday who needs more minutes is Teya Sidberry. She also finished the game with 18 points. She is one of the transfer portal recruits that Schaefer was able to recruit over the summer.
Sidberry could provide valuable minutes during the SEC portion of the schedule this season. A perfect way to get her familiar with the system is to give her more playing time against these inferior opponents. I'm surprised Schaefer isn't giving her more minutes during blowouts.

3. Dominating the turnover battle
I don't think the Longhorns need much work on their defense during practice after winning the turnover battle again on Sunday, this time 33-9 against the Tigers. Suppose Texas can replicate that during conference play this year.
Good luck stopping the Longhorns from winning the SEC Conference Championship this season if they're able to maintain this type of production. Remember what coaches always say, "defense wins championships."
The Longhorns sure flexed their defensive muscles yesterday.

4. Sidberry hits a career milestone
To wrap up the recap from yesterday's game, let's give a round of applause to Sidberry for reaching 1000 career points. That is a very tough milestone for any basketball player to hit in college. That is something that she should be proud of after graduating from Texas.
It's always nice to see teams honor the athletes by giving them a milestone basketball for their room or trophy cases. The Longhorns will wrap up their five-game homestand on Wednesday night against the James Madison Dukes.
