Arch Manning's leadership and skills are peaking right when Texas needs them to

This season could really be make or break for the collegiate career of Arch Manning's collegiate career.

Last season, he fell short of expectations; it's that simple. This year, however, the hype around the Horns' starting quarterback is still there, and as the season rapidly approaches, Manning is stepping up to the task at hand and that's exactly what the Texas Longhorns need.

From head coach Steve Sarkisian to Manning's own teammates, the Horns' QB1 is sounding more and more like the QB1 always expected him to be.

In fact, Texas recently mic'd up the team's offensive leader, and Manning showed exactly why he's being called the guy of college football this season.

Between telling his teammates exactly where a pass was going to go, or exactly where they needed to be, to firing up the rest of the squad as they ran through drills, Manning was the very embodiment of a leader and, well, a champion.

"Ready, ready set" and "That's butter!" may just become the go-to catch phrases of the Texas football team this season after Manning slung perfect throw after perfect throw to his wideouts, and completed seamless handoffs to his running backs.

The leadership has clearly reached where it's supposed to be, and based on the film, it looks like his on-field skills have taken a step in the right direction as well.

Of course, Manning has looked good in practice film all summer, but the past few days have provided more highlight-reel-worthy clips of the Texas starting quarterback than ever before.

Even Sarkisian can be seen and overheard shouting, "Now that is a throw, I'll take that!" in the practice footage.

Yet, at the same time, it won't be until the actual season kicks off that we will know if all of this work, and all of these highlights, are going to amount to success in the game.

However, at the same time and in those same practice clips, Manning is surrounded by talent that he hadn't been before.

From running backs Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown to wide receivers like Cam Coleman, the Longhorns have depth unlike the team has seen in... quite a while. Yes, there are returning stars like wideout Ryan Wingo and center Connor Robertson to support Manning as well, but Texas is looking bigger, better, and more mature than just a few months ago.

Manning's leadership, poise, and talent will have to shine throughout the entirety of the season, and he isn't the only one feeling the pressure, but as of right now, Texas fans should sit back and think, "So far, so good."
