Jason Asemota was a four-star recruit when he committed to the Baylor Bears ahead of the 2024-25 season. Then, as a freshman, the forward saw limited playing time as the Bears fell to seventh in the Big 12 conference.
Following Baylor's second-round exit from the NCAA Tournament, Asemota announced that he had entered the transfer portal.
Already, Asemota has heard from eight collegiate programs interested in picking up the true freshman from the portal, including the Texas Longhorns. On Thursday, March 27, Asemota shared with 247Sports that he had heard from Texas, Louisville, Providence, Boston College, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, UT Arlington, and Rice.
Throughout his freshman season, Asemota contributed 1.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.3 steals per game. While those aren't jaw-dropping stats for any player, people need to keep in mind that the forward only saw an average of 6.3 minutes per game.
Coming out of high school, the native Nigerian, who grew up in Arizona, was the No. 3 player in the state and the No. 16 small forward in the country. He received 22 Division I offers, including Sweet 16-qualifying teams like the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Auburn Tigers.
Texas has also been mentioned in conversations circulating around former four-star point guard Silas Demary Jr., who just finished his sophomore season for the Georgia Bulldogs before entering the transfer portal.
No matter who the Longhorns pick up from or lose to the portal, Texas is entering a new era for its men's basketball program after the team parted ways with Rodney Terry and hired former Xavier head coach Sean Miller to fill the role.
