One of Texas' top 2025 recruits is officially switching positions halfway through his true freshman season in Austin. The team announced that WR Michael Terry III is making the move to running back this week.
The No.1-ranked ATH from the 2025 recruiting cycle is no stranger to the running back position, as he played it at the prep level for Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. At 6'3", 220 lbs., he'll be one of the biggest ball-carriers on the team, and has the ability to be an explosive playmaker for the Longhorns in the backfield going forward.

Texas HC Steve Sarkisian said Terry has been IMPRESSIVE so Far.https://t.co/whlSguXGT3 pic.twitter.com/bQlLn5anXh
He was initially compared to the likes of Cordarelle Patterson coming out of high school due to his multi-faceted skillset, and now he'll get to play what's been referred to as his more "natural" position at Texas.
Not only will he be effective and dangerous as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, but he has legitimate footspeed and twitch despite being such a lengthy and tall player. His above-average long speed should also be on full display once he breaks through to the second level of defenses.
