C.J. Baxter and Quintrevion Wisner poised to run wild all over the SEC in 2025

The Longhorns will have two powerhouse running backs at their disposal this upcoming season. CJ Baxter looks to be a difference maker after returning from his season-ending injury last fall. Wisner looks to continue turning heads with his strength and speed. Good luck stopping both players in the SEC Conference.

Texas Longhorn football is only a couple of weekends away, and they'll kick things off in Columbus against the Ohio State Buckeyes in what some are calling a historic game. This is because the No.1 and No.2-ranked teams in the nation have never played each other in Week 1 of the college football season. Ever.

The Longhorns will have to try to replace the production of Jaydon Blue, who was selected in the 5th round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Blue is doing well at Dallas Cowboys training camp right now, but he had a scary setback yesterday as he was carted off the field. However, scans came back with just a bruised foot. That's excellent news for both Blue and the Cowboys because he'll undoubtedly be an intriguing part of their offense this season.

Despite Blue's success for the team last season, the Longhorns will still have one of the top running back duos in the SEC this coming fall. CJ Baxter and Quintrevion Wisner could be considered one of the best 1A/1B-type tandems in the league this year. It's something that SEC defenses will have to figure out how to slow down week in and week out. Wisner has the speed and agility to consistently get to the outside, while Baxter is going to be the ground-and-pound running back fighting for every yard between the tackles. Steve Sarkisian must find ways to get both backs on the field during games, like he has in the past.

The Longhorns advanced far in the College Football Playoffs last season, thanks to their ability to balance the running load between Blue and Wisner. The same thing needs to happen again this season with Baxter, Wisner, and possibly Jerrick Gibson. It's the only way the Longhorns will have one of the best running games in the conference. While I trust Arch Manning to make smart decisions in the passing game, let's give the ball to the running backs to help ease him into his first season as a starting quarterback.
