College GameDay taps Glen Powell over Matthew McConaughey, Scottie Scheffler for Week 2

For the 11th time in the history of ESPN's College GameDay, the show is kicking off college football Saturday from Austin, TX.

The usual stars like Academy Award-winning actor and Texas alum Matthew McConaughey or legendary Longhorn golfer and defending PGA FedEx Cup winner Scottie Scheffler have been the show's usual go-to guys for the celebrity guest picker.

This time around, as College GameDay comes to town for the Texas Longhorns' top-four matchup against the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, the celebrity guest picker will be none other than Glen Powell, another legendary alumnus of the University of Texas.

Glen Powell set to return to ESPN's College GameDay

Powell, who is best known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Hit Man, has most recently starred in, written, and produced "Chad Powers," a TV show about a college quarterback.

Now, this won't be Powell's first time on the ESPN morning desk, having joined College GameDay when it came to town in 2022 ahead of Texas's game against the then-No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide.

In his visit, Powell unsurprisingly picked the Longhorns to defeat the Crimson Tide, and he will likely do the same this weekend. Powell actually went 7-5 overall on his picks on College GameDay, but unfortunately, Alabama defeated Texas that day by just one point. This time around, maybe his ability to pick his alma mater will benefit the Horns.

Of course, Powell now has a little more experience when it comes to the world of college football, working with real-life teams on "Chad Powers" as the Executive Producer.

How to watch ESPN's College Gameday at Ohio State vs. Texas

• Date & Time: Saturday, Sept. 12, at 9 a.m. CT
• Location: LBJ Lawn, Austin, TX
• TV/Streaming: ESPN, fuboTV

The regular personalities: Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit, and Desmond Howard will be in attendance, as will the show's host, Rece Davis. 

Powell will likely join them toward the end of the show, as Lainey Wilson did last week when the show kicked off Week 1 from the Clemson-LSU game, only participating in the game picks. Unlike Wilson, Powell most likely will not perform any songs on stage as the country music star did.

College GameDay will begin at 9 a.m. CT and run through 11 a.m., when the games kick off. Of course, the No. 4 Longhorns and the No. 1 Buckeyes will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
