Big expectations loomed overhead for Xavier Worthy's second season in the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs had him lined up for greatness in their season opener.
Then, just a couple of minutes into the Chiefs' first game of the year, Worthy collided with tight end Travis Kelce and quickly exited the game. Worthy went to the sidelines and was ruled out for the rest of the Week 1 matchup, ruining fantasy lineups and betting odds for the first game of the season.
The collision with Kelce knocked Worthy off his feet and seemingly led to a shoulder injury, with many assuming that the young wideout had dislocated his shoulder, which isn't always a season-ending or even game-ending injury, but doesn't bode well for Worthy's overall physical health.
Wish I had video, but this is what I saw that made me think the trainer was relocating Xavier Worthy’s potentially dislocated shoulder. https://t.co/ijSUG4puvI pic.twitter.com/GKphJmigJg

In Kansas City's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, Worthy was targeted just once by quarterback Patrick Mahomes before he left the game, and was unable to come down with the ball. He finished the game with zero receptions and zero yards.
Worthy played three seasons for the Texas Longhorns and became a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after earning more than 2,750 yards and 26 touchdowns.
His rookie season for the Chiefs was exactly what Kansas City fans were looking for, earning 638 yards and six touchdowns, including two touchdowns in his first-ever Super Bowl.
The Chiefs have yet to release an injury update on Worthy, and the good news is that the team won't play again for more than a week, giving the wideout more time to recover to ensure that he is at his healthiest when Kansas City hosts the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch.
Kansas City and Philadelphia are scheduled to play at 3:25 on Sunday, Sept. 14, when Mahomes, Kelce, and (hopefully) Worthy look to avenge their loss from Super Bowl LIX.
