Worthy made Longhorns history, becoming the first Texas player to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. The offensive scoring for the Chiefs was much needed, but it came a little late, with the Eagles up big with under 20 minutes left in the game in the second half.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II found the rookie wideout Worthy in the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown pass and catch to cut the Eagles lead down to 34-6 late in the third quarter.
Worthy's touchdown catch in the second half was one of the few positives for the Chiefs so far in Super Bowl LIV. The Eagles' defense had dominated the Chiefs' offense for the first three quarters of the Super Bowl.
The big rookie season for Worthy continues for the Chiefs. He's now registered 60 catches for over 650 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Worthy is tied with Ladd McConkey and Malik Nabers for the fourth-most receiving touchdowns among rookies this season in 2024.
Worthy also has over 100 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns this season. Per Stathead, Worthy is the first-ever rookie wide receiver in the NFL to record seven receiving touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a season.
A first-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy's stock was solidified in the draft last spring after he set a record, running a 4.210-second 40-yard dash time at the NFL combine. Worthy had a tremendous collegiate career at Texas, registering 197 receptions for over 2,700 receiving yards and 26 touchdown catches.
Worthy also had a punt return touchdown and a passing touchdown at Texas in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
