Dailyn Swain will be the key to Texas' shot at a Cinderella story in 2026

The Longhorns' star small forward has what it takes to carry Texas through the SEC tournament, beginning with tonight's game against Ole Miss.

It's been a great year for Sean Miller and the Longhorns in 2026, and one of the biggest reasons why is because of transfer SF Dailyn Swain's performance. Despite not having the best outlook heading into the postseason, there's a good chance that Swain will continue playing incredibly well throughout the SEC Tournament.

Texas is currently set to face Ole Miss tonight in game one of the conference tournament, and Texas' star forward could have a dominant night alongside guys like Matas Vokietaitis and Tramon Mark. All three of these players have been key contributors on both sides of the ball this year.

Swain's scoring ability and physicality should not only set the tone for the SEC Tournament, but if the Longhorns make it into the March Madness bracket, it wouldn't be surprising to see him be the main catalyst for the team's potential success there as well.

Throughout the 2025/2026 regular season, he's averaged 17.7 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 3.4 APG, and 1.8 SPG while shooting 55.4% from the field. He also recently won the SEC's Newcomer of the Year Award after being one of the top overall players in the league during his first year in the conference.

As mentioned in a previous article, Texas' initial path through the conference bracket is fairly easy unless they completely forget how to play basketball over the next week. If Swain simply continues to play like he has over the past month, the Longhorns could end up surprising the college basketball world this month.
