Days after landing Landen Williams-Callis, Texas is aiming for top-10 RB in class of 2028

Three days ago, the Texas Longhorns landed a commitment from five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, bolstering the team's recruiting class of 2027 to No. 6 in the national standings.

Now, refusing to take their foot off the gas pedal, the Horns and head coach Steve Sarkisian are in hot pursuit of yet another blue-chip running back: Micah Rhodes.

Rhodes, a four-star prospect in the class of 2028, is the No. 8 running back in his recruiting cycle, and Texas has already received an expert prediction that he will end up on its depth chart.

Last summer, Rhodes attended the Longhorns' football camp for high schoolers. Almost immediately, Sarkisian and his staff extended Rhodes an official offer, impressed by what they had seen and eager to bring the running back into their fold.

However, Texas was a little late to the party as the 19th program to give Rhodes an offer. The Horns trailed quite a few powerhouse programs, including none other than the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

A native of Spring, a small town just north of Houston, it should come as no surprise that a slew of in-state teams have offered Rhodes, and while the Longhorns were slightly tardy, it is clear that Sarkisian has his program trending in the right direction for the running back.

That is, after he decommitted from the Sooners.

Rhodes actually committed to Oklahoma in January of this year, just six months after receiving the offer from Texas. However, he decommitted from OU in April, reopening his commitment, and immediately, the Longhorns charged to the front of the race.

"[My] relationships with Texas has been growing and growing with each conversation and every visit," Rhodes said earlier this summer. "Texas made it clear to me and my family that it's more than just football."

Both Texas recruiting insider Sam Spiegelman and Oklahoma recruiting insider Josh McCuistion have logged expert predictions in the Longhorns' favor to earn Rhodes' commitment. According to On3, Texas currently has a favorable 92.4-percent chance to land the running back, trailed by OU with a minimal 3.8 percent.

So far, Sarkisian has landed just one prospect from the class of 2028: four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence, who committed to the Longhorns in June. As the No. 5 quarterback in his recruiting cycle, he was the perfect player to kick off yet another premier recruiting class for Texas.

Now, if Sarkisian could just land an elite running back to join Lawrence in the back field...
