Forgotten Texas assistant shows he's way out of his depth with Colorado OL take

In a comment out of left field, former Texas assistant Brennan Marion called out the Longhorns in a moment that could have highlighted his current team instead of disparaging a previous one.

Marion, who was named the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the Colorado Buffaloes earlier this year, inexplicably took aim at the Texas Longhorns, the very team he spent a season with just a few years ago.

"Our O-Line is better than what we had at Texas, other than we don't have [Kelvin Banks Jr.]," Marion said. "Offensive line-wise, we're better, we're bigger, we're more physical. This will be the best offensive line that I've ever had."

Brennan Marion has astronomical expectations for Colorado OL

Well, as someone who was the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Texas, Marion already seems to be a little out of his depth. Not to mention the fact that this is just his third-ever gig as an offensive coordinator, holding the role at Howard and UNLV previously, as well as being the head coach at Sacramento State.

Beyond his minimal experience at the Power Four level, beyond his one year with the Longhorns, Marion is talking about a Buffs team that has fallen flat season after season after season since head coach Deion Sanders took over at Colorado.

Furthermore, the Buffaloes have become well known across social media as a team with athletes who look closer to the size of high school football players than Power Conference stars.

Of course, it was nice for Marion to praise Kelvin Banks, who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Yet, at the same time, the former Texas assistant also spent just one year with Banks, who was a true freshman in 2022 when Marion was on the Longhorns' coaching staff.

Not to mention the fact that in 2022, it was only Texas's second year under head coach Steve Sarkisian, and the Horns were going through a massive rebuilding era, but still went 8-5 overall and 6-3 against Big 12 opponents.

For reference, over the last two years, Colorado has gone 12-13 overall since joining the Big 12 in 2024 and 8-10 against conference opponents.

Simply put, Marion's comments could have easily hyped up the Colorado offensive line without him ever mentioning the Longhorns. Instead, he took an unnecessary shot at Texas, a team that gave Marion a massive opportunity when Sarkisian hired him as an assistant.

Ultimately, only time will tell how good Colorado's offensive line turns out this season, but for now, it might be best for Marion to stay in his own lane.
