Former Texas football and Duke Blue Devils quarterback Maalik Murphy has found a new home with a Pac-12 team out on the West Coast, a report from On3 confirms on Dec. 19. Murphy transferred to join the Oregon State Beavers program in Corvallis for the 2025 season from the portal.

With two years of eligibility, ex-Texas football and Duke QB Maalik Murphy transfers to Oregon State

This is the second time in as many offseasons that Murphy has transferred to another FBS program via the portal. Last offseason, Murphy transferred from Texas to Duke to be the starting quarterback for head coach Manny Diaz and the Blue Devils in the ACC.

Murphy was good for Duke, leading the Blue Devils to a nine-win regular season while putting up record-breaking passing stats. He threw for 2,933 yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and 12 interceptions for Diaz and the Blue Devils in the 2024 regular season. Murphy also rushed for two touchdowns.

It came as a pretty big surprise that Murphy decided to enter the transfer portal in the winter window. He was very successful at Duke in his first year as the starting quarterback with Diaz and the Blue Devils having a shot to win double-digit games with a win over No. 16 Ole Miss in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, 2025.

Before transferring to Duke last offseason, Murphy spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Texas under head coach Steve Sarkisian. Murphy led Texas to a 2-0 record as the starting quarterback in the 2023 season, after Quinn Ewers suffered an upper-body injury during Big 12 play in the Houston game in late-October.

Had it not been for Murphy winning two critical Big 12 games against BYU and a top-25 Kansas State team in overtime last season, Texas would not have won the conference and made the College Football Playoff.

Murphy is a huge addition for the Beavers, as the No. 4 transfer quarterback according to 247Sports. He was one of the highest-ranked quarterback recruits in the class of 2022 from Juniperro Serra High School in Gardena, CA.
