Former Texas football junior tight end transfer Amari Niblack will remain in the SEC with an in-state rival of UT, the Texas A&M Aggies. On3's Pete Nakos was the first to report the news on Jan. 20 that Niblack has transferred to and is expected to sign with Texas A&M.
This news comes just a few days after Niblack's plans to enter the transfer portal were reported on Jan. 17.
Texas football transfer TE Amari Niblack staying in the SEC with Texas A&M for the 2025 season via the winter portal window
Niblack spent one season with the Longhorns after transferring from the Alabama Crimson Tide last offseason. He played nine games for the Longhorns this past season, registering five catches for 33 receiving yards and no touchdown catches.
His best game at Texas came in the win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in late October, where he registered two catches for 22 receiving yards.
The former blue-chip recruit from Florida was expected to be a big part of Texas's offense in 2024. But the breakthrough of senior tight end Gunnar Helm, and the contributions of fellow senior tight end Juan Davis, limited NIblack's offensive snaps and targets this past fall for the Longhorns.
Before transferring to Texas in 2024, Niblack was a significant contributor to Alabama's offense in 2023. He played two dozen games for the Tide in 2022 and 2023, registering 21 catches for 342 receiving yards, and five touchdowns.
Niblack's best season at Alabama came with the Tide's SEC Championship squad in 2023, picking up 20 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns.
Texas is expected to continue to look to take a tight end from the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. Since Texas lost three upperclassmen due to exhausted eligibility and the transfer portal, including Helm, Davis, and Niblack, getting an experienced tight end from the portal makes sense to add more proven depth to head coach Steve Sarkisian's offense in the 2025 season.
