Texas has been absolutely killing it in the transfer portal this year, and they were able to add to it recently by snatching up local high school star Markus Boswell from Akron.
The Lake Travis HS grad ended up being a mainstay on the Zips' defense as a true freshman in 2025, playing in 11 games on both defense and special teams. At 6'1", 230 lbs., he has more than enough size and athleticism to contribute down the road at the SEC level.
Some Texas fans might remember his name too. Not only due to his impressive high school career, but his father Mark, was also a University of Texas athlete and Olympic high jumper back in the early 2000's.
Texas has signed Akron linebacker transfer Markus Boswell, @chris_hummer and I have learned.

Markus' motor and overall hustle has been his calling card, never giving up on a play unless the ball-carrier is on the ground. This is obviously an exceptional trait to have as a linebacker because it means that he's constantly around the ball both as a run stopper and pass defender.
Yes, he's transferring in from a MAC school, but there's a real chance that Boswell see's the field early and often as a core special teamer for the Longhorns.
Will Muschamp has been doing everything he can to add linebackers in the portal due to Texas having quite a few leave this offseason. Though there's a chance that they could be done now with Rasheem Biles, Justin Cryer, and now Markus Boswell committed, it wouldn't be surprising to see them add another WILL-type player to the mix.
Make sure to keep up to date with all of the Longhorns' 2026 transfer portal activity here.
