Cole Brevard, DT
Texas's second portal addition of the day, which came just a few hours after the Longhorns landed Spence's commitment on Dec. 14, was from former Purdue Boilermakers senior grad transfer defensive tackle Cole Brevard.
The big 6-foot-3 and 330-pound defensive lineman from Ohio is the Longhorns' first commitment from the portal at the biggest position of need on any side of the ball for the upcoming offseason. Brevard has multiple years of starting experience playing in the Big Ten at Purdue.
Brevard was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention defensive lineman for the Boilermakers this season, as he led the team in defensive grade and tackles for loss at defensive tackle. He registered 19 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 14 quarterback pressures, and 13 defensive stops.
What is most important about the Longhorns getting Brevard from the portal is the instant impact he'll make on the interior defensive line as a proven nose tackle. Brevard has taken over 500 career snaps against P4 competition at the nose tackle position (per PFF).
Texas still probably needs to add at least two more transfer defensive tackles from the portal during the winter window. But getting Brevard is a great way to start for the Longhorns recruiting in the portal at defensive tackle.
Texas could also have more help on the way soon with former UCF Knights senior transfer defensive tackle Lee Hunter set to visit Austin on Monday (Dec. 16).
