High-upside 4-Star DL Joseph Mbatchou commits to Texas
Per On3's Hayes Fawcett, four-star Loganville (GA) Grayson defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou committed to Texas football on Nov. 23. Mbatchou picked Texas over the Auburn Tigers, USC Trojans, and Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday afternoon.
Texas football adds critical DL depth and upside with 4-Star commit Joseph Mbatchou
Mbatchou's commitment to the Longhorns comes roughly one month after he de-committed from the Florida Gators on Oct. 21.
Defensive line coach Kenny Baker and the Longhorns have made Mbatchou's recruitment a top priority among out-of-state defensive tackle targets in the 2025 class they've pursued on the trail this fall. Texas loves the athletic frame and high-ceiling potential Mbatchou brings to the table for the defensive line in the SEC.
At 6-foot-5 and 280-pounds, Mbatchou is a freak athlete with a quick first step, tremendous power at the point of attack at defensive tackle in the trenches, and versatility to play at multiple techniques along the interior defensive line.
Mbatchou told Horns247 that Texas's pitch to him to develop and the constant communication with the Longhorns staff led him to this decision to commit.
"They were just letting me know that there's a place for me at Texas. They want me. They just say keep on improving, keep on doing better. They just motivate me to keep going."
- Joseph Mbatchou
Texas has hosted Mbatchou for multiple gameday visits this fall. He took his official visit to Texas for the Georgia Bulldogs game at DKR on Oct. 19.
Baker and the Longhorns needed to add a big-time defensive tackle class for the 2025 cycle to restock the depth for that spot and compete in the SEC in the trenches in the future. Texas has three defensive tackles committed to the 2025 class, including Port Charlotte (FL) four-star Myron Charles, Folsom (CA) four-star Josiah Sharma, and Mbatchou.
There is the possibility that Texas goes after another defensive line target in the 2025 class before signing day in early December. But the Longhorns do have a pretty solid class at defensive tackle for 2025 before signing day on Dec. 4 that the fans should be happy with right now.
