If Texas parts way with Rodney Terry, the Horns are running out of replacement options

The coaching carousel has taken off. With Texas men's basketball head coach Rodney Terry on the hot seat, the Horns might need a replacement.

Unless the Texas men's basketball team goes on a shocking run in the NCAA Tournament, head coach Rodney Terry might be logging back into LinkedIn as the Longhorns look for a new head coach.

With the Horns' season stretching into the NCAA Tournament, instead of ending during the SEC Tournament, a little life has been breathed into Terry's tenure at Texas. However, if the Longhorns ultimately decide to go in a different direction, the team is running out of time to find their next man up for the job.

As the national coaching carousel gains momentum and head coaches from across the country leave their programs or find new teams, a few prominent HCs have already found somewhere new to call home, narrowing the pool of candidates for Terry's possible replacement.

WVU head coach Darian DeVries heads to Indiana

Darian DeVries parted ways from the West Virginia Mountaineers after they missed out on the NCAA Tournament to join the Indiana Hoosiers as the program's newest head coach. DeVries spent just one season with WVU but led the Mountaineers to a fairly impressive 19-13 overall record this season.

McNeese State head coach Will Wade heads to NC State

Despite having an NCAA Tournament game ahead of him with his current team, the McNeese State Cowboys, it was announced that head coach Will Wade would join the NC State Wolfpack as the program's new head coach, replacing Kevin Keatts.

Iowa, Villanova, Virginia, and more are still looking

There are at least a dozen Division I programs in the hunt for a new head coach, so if Texas and Terry go separate ways, the Longhorns will be joining the search party a little late.

From the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Villanova Wildcats to the Virginia Cavaliers, some of the more notable programs in the country currently have a vacancy in their head coach role and will need to hire someone sooner rather than later.

While Texas shouldn't fire Terry while the Horns are still in the Tournament, figures like Athletic Director Chris Del Conte might want to start thinking about who could be next.
